We visited the Old West Museum! We got to peek inside one of the first RV’s! The boys wanted to know where the kids’ room was! lol This is the first time we have seen such a huge collection of wagons! We especially loved the undertaker’s wagon and the milk wagon. Grant took his weekly bath. 🙂 They played in the playroom while Patrick and I went back through and looked at some of the cool, old wagons. ... and apparently cowboys are supposed to be tough and mean. While we were there we watched a rather long (and funny) video of the history of Cheyenne Frontier Days. It was made probably in the 80’s judging by the hairdo’s and big glasses, but it made me really think that the rest of the country needs to up the ante for their rodeo’s! I would love to see chuck wagon racing in person!! The woman at the front desk was a true gem! She helped us take our family pictures and when we left she gave my boys each a book! They were so excited! The Museum’s hours are 9:00 am to 5:00 pm Daily. Open seven days a week. General Admission – $10.00 Seniors and Military – $8.00 Students ages 12-18 and Laramie County residents – $5.00 Free – Children 12 and under Have you been? What was YOUR favorite wagon?

The boys and I decided to check it out while Patrick was at work. The gardens were beautiful and well kept, but what the kids REALLY loved was the Paul Smith Children’s Village. As we entered the children’s village we were met with blooming flower, plant, and vegetable gardens! The three-quarter acre piece of land was jam-packed with interactive things for children to do! The 1930’s era building located in the rear of the gardens has an old rock wall attached to it that forms the “secret garden”. Even as an adult it felt like something straight out of a children’s book. Built into the side of the “secret garden” was a puppet theater where Grant made a new friend: Mr Rabbit. They enjoyed singing together and making jokes! Owen also joined in on the puppetry fun! In the midst of the natural wetlands was a bridge that the kids had to pull from one side of the pond to the other to load and off-load each other. The boys had so much fun on this and made a ton of friends! And of course there was FLOWERS! I especially loved this part of our adventure! While the kids played checkers and tic-tac-toe I walked around and enjoyed nature’s beauty! If you are in the Cheyenne, Wyoming area and are looking for something to do you should check out the Cheyenne Botanic Gardens! The best part is it is free! **Do you like our posts? What we found was quite the surprise! The visitors center was so nice! Not only did it have the typical brochures and books of places to see and things to do, but it also had a walk through history of Wyoming! This included a lot of informational push button displays, art installations, an unearthed dinosaur skeleton AND a jail cell with an escape hatch that led to a slide! The kids LOVED it and it made learning about Wyoming fun! Apparently they learned how to escape jail. 🙂 They were mesmerized by the giant bone structure! They were very excited to see a checkers game! They love to play checkers and tic-tac-toe! Owen and Grant were reading every sign in the visitors center and telling me the details about what they learned about Wyoming and where they wanted to visit! We are only in Cheyenne, Wyoming for a very short period of time so while we were at the visitors center we created a “Cheyenne Bucket List” of things we want to do before we leave here! Wyoming: First Impressions http://thatsavagelife.com/wyoming-first-impressions/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=wyoming-first-impressions http://thatsavagelife.com/wyoming-first-impressions/#respond Sun, 18 Aug 2013 06:55:11 +0000 http://happilyuprooted.com/?p=1244 We made it to Cheyenne, Wyoming today, Saturday, August 17. We found the campground where some of the other guys from Patrick’s work are staying and pulled in. First impressions of this place are that it looks nice… until you realize that there is barely internet and almost no Sprint cellphone service. We attempted to find the goldilocks of campgrounds here in Cheyenne, but we came up short and decided the one we are at will have to do. The others were either too far away from the job site, dusty, or way too expensive. We chose WYO campground on the East side of Cheyenne. The kids found the playground right away and made themselves busy in this old fashioned play area! They love the solid metal slides, merry-go-round and teeter-totters, but I am a little nervous! At least it wore them out and no doubt they will be asking to play there tomorrow! The good news is there is a pool and game room to keep us plenty busy! Because the internet is terrible here we have stopped doing our normal curriculum (time4learning) and switched to workbooks until we can get somewhere that has better internet.   Here are some random pics of WYO campground: Like our blog?
