The boys and I decided to check it out while Patrick was at work. The gardens were beautiful and well kept, but what the kids REALLY loved was the Paul Smith Children’s Village. As we entered the children’s village we were met with blooming flower, plant, and vegetable gardens! The three-quarter acre piece of land was jam-packed with interactive things for children to do! The 1930’s era building located in the rear of the gardens has an old rock wall attached to it that forms the “secret garden”. Even as an adult it felt like something straight out of a children’s book. Built into the side of the “secret garden” was a puppet theater where Grant made a new friend: Mr Rabbit. They enjoyed singing together and making jokes! Owen also joined in on the puppetry fun! In the midst of the natural wetlands was a bridge that the kids had to pull from one side of the pond to the other to load and off-load each other. The boys had so much fun on this and made a ton of friends! And of course there was FLOWERS! I especially loved this part of our adventure! While the kids played checkers and tic-tac-toe I walked around and enjoyed nature’s beauty! If you are in the Cheyenne, Wyoming area and are looking for something to do you should check out the Cheyenne Botanic Gardens! The best part is it is free! **Do you like our posts? What we found was quite the surprise! The visitors center was so nice! Not only did it have the typical brochures and books of places to see and things to do, but it also had a walk through history of Wyoming! This included a lot of informational push button displays, art installations, an unearthed dinosaur skeleton AND a jail cell with an escape hatch that led to a slide! The kids LOVED it and it made learning about Wyoming fun! Apparently they learned how to escape jail. 🙂 They were mesmerized by the giant bone structure! They were very excited to see a checkers game! They love to play checkers and tic-tac-toe! The shoes, the clothes, the toys! We had way to much of all of it! Living in an RV you have to constantly be pruning your collection of “things”. We spent almost the whole day donating, cleaning, repairing, and trashing a lot of “STUFF” in the kids’ room! Now it is much easier to find the toys, clothes, and shoes they are looking for! It feels and looks much better and is easier for the kids to clean themselves! It’s a win/win! (you can click to enlarge) We had also collected a HUGE collection of books from various trips to thrift stores and garage sales. While I was happy the boys had books available to read they just weren’t justifiable in the RV any longer. During transit they would get ripped, crumpled, lost, and scattered. We kept about 5 out of 100 or so books and donated the rest. Our new solution is we will be getting the boys each a Kindle as well as using the public library more often! <3 Jennifer

After Duck Dynasty we headed north through Arkansas and then Missouri. From southern Missouri we headed west to our favorite little overnight RV spot in Kansas! We love finding these little hidden RV overnight spots! In this case the one in Parsons is only $5.00 a night with electric and water hookups! It is right in Marvel City Park and next door to the baseball fields and dog parks. There is also a tornado shelter… it is Kansas after all! Next we continued northwest through Kansas and came across another CHEAP place to stay overnight! Hill City is a TINY Kansas town in the middle of nowhere that has $10.00 a night RV sites at their fairgrounds! There are tons of sites to choose from. Ours had water and electric and there was a dump station! The ONLY bad thing is the fairgrounds has manure from all the livestock and the flies were TERRIBLE!!! We are in Wyoming now and we are still killing the Kansas flies! But, for $10.00 I can’t really complain! Once we left Hill City, Kansas we drove north through Nebraska… there really wasn’t anything to look at except this one old barn… To be continued in Wyoming!

We wanted to stop by the Duck Commander in West Monroe, Louisiana. We pulled in around dark and stayed the night at a campground 5 miles from Duck Dynasty Duck Commander headquarters! We got up in the morning and went and had breakfast and on to the Duck Commander warehouse! The Duckmen weren’t there as it was the season premier of Duck Dynasty season 4 and the whole family was in New York! I was a little sad because I had my heart set on meeting Si! 🙂 There wasn’t really much to the “tour”. There was really just a souvenir shop, the trailer and the “Duck commander, Buck commander” sign. That was it! Oh, and the worlds largest duck call was displayed in the lobby! We took some pictures, bought some shirts and went back to the RV to pack up and head north to Wyoming!

We were about 18 minutes from the beach and spent lots of time playing in the ocean! The boys loved the water and even though it was freezing cold they would body board and come out shivering, warm up and go back in! When we first got to New Jersey this Texas family felt a little out of place! People were short with words and not very friendly… well, not in a Texas friendly kind of way. At first I thought they were just rude, but turns out people in New Jersey were really nice… in their own ways. Some interesting facts about New Jersey: 1) You may not make a left hand turn across traffic. You must exit right to turn left. This resulted in a lot of loopty-loop driving for me because I just did not get it! 2) You may not pump your own gas! At first this was so weird… until it was blistering hot or pouring rain… then I appreciated it! 3) Trees along the roadways are sprayed with a noxious chemical… to prevent THEFT! Who steals trees? Reading more into it I learned that people steal the evergreen Christmas trees and sell them down south where they don’t naturally grow. While we were in New Jersey we went on a family hike in the Monmouth Battlefield State Park. What is cool about this park is that not only does it have reenactments occasionally, but there is also a few U-pick-em fruit orchards in the State Park! The hike was an easy 1 mile hike, BUT hurricane Sandy really messed up the trails which required us to climb up, over and through fallen debris. New Jersey had great beaches and delicious pizza! It was one of my top 5 favorite places to visit!

And the next two days we meandered the remaining 6 hours. The drive was beautiful! I had no idea Virginia and Maryland were so pretty! We boon-docked (parked to sleep without electric, water or sewer) for the night outside of Lynchburg, Virginia on the second night! We found this spot because a very generous person on the Fulltime Rv’ing Facebook page offered his land for anyone passing through! It just so happened that we were passing through there the day after he posted his offering!! We drove our rigs through the hills of Virginia and found his home. His family was welcoming and we are so glad we stopped for the night and had the chance to meet them (and get a good night’s sleep)! After Virginia we stopped in Maryland to visit with family from Patrick’s side! It was so nice to see people we haven’t seen in over 8 years! The boys loved meeting them and running around their place… I think they were in a sugar coma most of the time due to the cupcakes they made with Aunt P! They had an unforgettable time and are already asking me to go back and visit! Luckily we are only two and a half hours away so we’ll have plenty of time to visit our northeastern family! We left Maryland and only had a short drive to our RV park. The park wasn’t exactly what we were thinking it was going to be (more on that later), but it will do!
