    We named our homeschool!

    August 22, 2013 / 8 Comments

I ran across an article that talked about naming your homeschool. At first I thought it was silly, but then I realized that some states actually require you to name your homeschool and they treat it as a private school. While Texas does not require you to name your homeschool I thought it would be fun to do anyway! Why name your homeschool?  – Some co-ops and umbrella schools might require your homeschool to be identified by name. – If you make a student or teacher ID you will need a school name. – Some incentive programs like Book-it ask for it. – You’ll need a name if you are…

    Easy Sun Catcher Craft!

    August 1, 2013 / 8 Comments

Make your own Easy Sun Catcher Craft! This is a fun and easy craft for all ages! I even enjoyed making my own sun catcher with the kids! It is super, super easy!! You’ll need translucent cheap beads (kids craft beads $1.97 at Wal-Mart) and a tin foil pan. Make sure your pan is cheap like the ones from dollar tree so that it doesn’t have a brand name imprinted on it. Just a smooth bottom. Line the bottom of the pan as you wish with any design using the beads! We made star shapes, bluebonnets, and random. The random one actually turned out the best! Make sure there are…

    Summer of Science: Naked Eggs!

    June 7, 2013 / 2 Comments

Naked Eggs Experiment! This week we made NAKED EGGS! This is an easy experiment! [wp_ad_camp_2] Supplies: 1 raw egg vinegar container large enough for the egg Directions: Place egg in container Pour vinegar until egg is covered Place lid on container Allow egg to sit for 12-24 hours and observe the changes After the shell is completely dissolved take the egg out, wash it off and let the kids hold it and squeeze it. We even dropped ours from about 4 inches off the counter to see what would happen. [wp_ad_camp_1] What we did:  The boys used their journals to draw what we did (the process). Next, they drew their…

Tour the wild, wild west: Old Tucson Studios!

    April 15, 2013 / No Comments

We had the opportunity to check out Old Tucson Studios on a recent trip to Tucson, Arizona. Old Tucson is a movie studio and theme park. Great westerns such as Gun fight at the OK Coral and Little House on the Prairie were filmed there. We got free tickets and had zero expectations of what we were going to encounter there. The only thing we knew was it was a replica of the wild west. We pulled into the theme park and parked. We started noticing that we were basically the only ones NOT dressed up. We just so happen to go to Old Tucson on the one weekend that they…

    Adventus MusIQ: A TOS Review

    March 26, 2013 / No Comments

We were recently given the opportunity to review an innovative  program aimed at teaching children to play the piano from the comfort of their home. Adventus has a fun, computer based program called MusIQ. The program uses the computer and a midi keyboard. MusIQ lessons take about an hour and teaches  variety of music theory and history. There is a game to reinforce the lesson and printable activity sheets to go along with the lesson they just learned! MusIQ comes with everything you need for a well rounded music curriculum. For this particular review we reviewed Children’s Music Journey Volume 1.  Volume one has 25 lessons which is plenty for the year!…

    Happily Uprooted answers WHY

    March 19, 2013 / 13 Comments

We have been on the road for over a year and a half traveling with my husband’s job. Sometimes we are at a job site for two weeks and sometimes we are there for a few months. We have criss-crossed the US four times and visited 23 states and Puerto Rico. No matter where we go or who we meet we get a few of the same question over and over… today Happily Uprooted answers the WHY! Why do you travel? Why did you chose this life over a “normal” life? Why don’t you have a “normal” house? Why do you home school? Why are you doing this to your…

    Target The Question {{A Review}}

    March 7, 2013 / No Comments

This month I have had the pleasure of reviewing Lone Star Learning‘s Target The Question for 1st grade! Target The Question is daily math program that only takes about 10 to 15 minutes. The purpose of Target The Question is to help children learn how to focus on the question and pick out extra information that is within a word problem. Each day there is a new word problem. The program also has printable worksheets, answer keys, and reference pages available for the parent to print out. The program itself is simple and easy to use! It consist of minimal buttons and navigates easily! There is one button for the Question…
